The Skincare Tag

Hello there!

So I've been stuck at a standstill as to what to post first, and after scrolling endlessly through my fave blogs I've decided that you guys should get to know my skincare and beauty preferences.  I know that for me, the first thing I look for on a blog is how similar my needs are to the author, because what's the point of taking personal note on tips and tricks meant for skin that is dry and blemish-free when I know that they won't apply to me?

One of my long time fave bloggers, Annabel, posted this tag during a bout of writers block and then tagged all of her readers at the end, so here we go!

Describe your routine in 5 words...
Remove, exfoliate, resurface, moisturize, mattify.

What's your skin type?
Combination with extremely oily T-zone and dry to normal cheeks in the summer and autumn and in the winter, I'm dehydrated with extremely dry patches and an oily forehead.  I've also got a lot of acne scarring on my back, chest and face.

What is your favourite skincare product?
Neutragena Rapid Tone Repair Moisturizer for Night.  I tried it from one of my friends mums and I loved it so much that I went and bought it myself.  I wear it all the time, night and morning even though it does claim to be just for night time.  It wears perfectly fine under my make-up so I don't see the point in buying both especially at the price they are.

Top blemish zapper...
Clean & Clear Persa-Gel 5.  It contains 5% benzoyl peroxide and is perfect for me.  I like to mix it with whatever moisturizer or oil I'm using at the time.  I find it helps a lot with both oil control and breakouts, plus it's often on sale for 2-for-1 at my local Shoppers Drug Mart.

Face wipes... yay or nay?
A yay for sure!  As a performer, I often find myself wearing so much makeup that it takes even my favourite cleansing oil (coconut oil) four or five passes to clean it all up and that just makes a massive mess.  That being said, I don't rely completely on face wipes to take care of my skin.  It's a nice mix of face wipes followed by cleansing oil, exfoliator, a mask and then various creams and oils.

My two favourite face wipes are the Soap and Glory Off Your Face Cleansing Cloths and the Quo Mini Eye Makeup Remover Pads.

Toner... yay or nay?
Once again this is a definite yay!  I love the feel of a nice cooling toner on my skin in the sticky Toronto and New York summers and after a heavy dance class.

I'm partial to the Nivea Pure & Natural Purifying Toner but if you prefer something homemade try this one of these recipes.

High end skincare or high end makeup?
Definitely high end skincare, especially for more specialized stuff.  However, I'll try things from all over the board as I've found that things from all over my price range work very well.

What is the most universal skincare product you've tried?
It's a tie between two of my faves.  The first is the Que Bella Purifying Tea Tree & Witch Hazel Mud Mask, one of my all time favourite masks, in league with the First Aid Beauty Purifying Mask With Red Clay.  It's advertised as a purifying mask for acne-prone and dry skin and I think it truly lives up to the claim.  After washing it off, your skin feels ultra clean and soft, but not tight and stripped.  My friends and I always go for this during sleepovers, despite our varied skin types.

The second product is the Boots No. 7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Balm for Dry/Very Dry Skin.  It's a definite staple for me, even when my skin has taken a very oily turn.  It's very balancing and leaves the skin hydrated without leaving waxy residue.

You're in a pharmacy and can only pick up one item - what would it be?
I've been lusting after the La Roche-Posey Pigmentclar Intensive Dark Spot Correcting Serum for quite a while now.  The reviews are amazing, I can't wait to try it out!

Top skincare tips.
  • Understand your skin and its current situation
  • Understand what your goals are for your skin
  • Don't be impatient about it, the race to your ultimate skincare goal is a marathon not a sprint
  • Always use a flannel
  • Double cleanse
  • Hydrate inside and out!

Let me know what you think of my choices. If you have any suggestions for me, don't hesitate to let me know!  And now I tag all of you to do the Skincare Tag!

I hope that you have a beautiful day!
